A Fun School Visit

I'd like to say thanks to Renaissance Academy for being kind enough to invite me to speak at their school, and in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. It was a lot of fun getting to meet all the student from Kindergarten to 6th grade.

My Visit included reading the book, talking about my inspiration for the story and characters, and well as the tools used to do my illustrations. I demonstrated to the kids how to draw Timmy, the old sea turtle, and the hammer head shark from my story. I also took questions from the kids, and signed copies of the Timmy's Quest.

The Kids were all very nice, and very enthusiastic, which made the presentation a lot of fun for everyone. I've posted some pictures from the event below, you can also see more on the Libraries website, here.

The Realoscope

In addition to "Below to the Waves" I also illustrated another children's book by author Lance Okones, called "The Realoscope of Ringgold Valley"

It's a fun story about Lisa and Brian, who use an invention called the Realoscope to travel to the moon for a school science project. Along the way they meet Deedle, a friendly green alien that helps them with their projects and leads them on future adventures. This the first book in an ongoing series.

Please visit our website and follow Lisa, Brian and Deedle on their fun filled adventures.

Undersea Fact:

Sailors and other mariners have reported that the ocean often emits a visible glow, or luminescence, which extends for miles at night. In 2005, scientists announced that for the first time, they had obtained photographic evidence of this glow. It may be caused by bioluminescence.

Below the Waves Reviewed on My Springfield Mommy.com

Margie Brill of My Springfield Mommy.com was nice enough to do a review of Below the Waves on her blog.

Here's some of what she had to say about the book:
"My daughter loves Below the Waves, Timmy's Quest. The story is simple and understandable and is one you can feel safe reading to your child. The images follow the story, so children who may not yet know how to read will be able to follow the story with or without you there to help."

I am also doing a give away with Margie's site. One lucky reader will receive a free copy of Timmy's Quest.
Please visit her site to read the rest of the article and rules how to enter the contest. The giveaway runs until October 26, 2010.

Undersea fact:

Did you know an octopus can squirt a cloud of ink as a distraction to escape from predators?

In my story, Timmy uses this ability to make a run from a pair of bullying sharks.
